About the Museum's Chief Operating Officer

Graham Dobbin was born in 1959 and educated at Shenfield School, Essex and the University of Wales where he achieved a BA (Hons) in history. After a short spell selling furniture in Wales, he joined the civil service in1983 and then transferred to the Royal Navy Submarine Museum in 1989, joining the Royal Naval Museum as Head of Internal Resources (Finance & HR) in 1993.

Mr Dobbin has been Acting Director since August 2008 when the Director, Dr Colin White, was diagnosed with cancer – sadly Dr White passed away on Christmas Day 2008.  At the time of writing, Trustees are not seeking to recruit a new Director. With the launch of the National Museum of the Royal Navy in September, his title has changed to Chief Operating Officer.

Outside of the Museum, Mr Dobbin’s main interest lies in the (Chinese) Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution having visited China on numerous occasions and being the proud owner of a small collection of Cultural Revolution artefacts.
