 The Opportunity

The National Museum of the Royal Navy www.nmrn.org.uk is a leading Naval History Museum whose mission is to promote the traditions and public understanding of the Royal Navy and its constituent branches, past, present and future. The NMRN is a beacon of excellence in enabling people to learn, enjoy and engage with the story of the Royal Navy and its impact in shaping the modern world. Our current employee base is circa 225, divided into five Naval Service Museums located in the South of England. This is an exciting time for the NMRN as we strive to optimise and harness the combined talents and strengths by integrating the five naval museums in order to realise the Vision of the NMRN to be the world’s most respected naval museum; underpinned by the spirit of enterprise and adventure.

 The Role

The HR Manager will play a critical role in the long term success of integrating all the museums, by taking responsibility of all HR matters in line with employment legislation and best practice and by helping to cultivate an integrated culture that attracts and retains high calibre individuals. The HR Manager will coach and advise management across NMRN to ensure employees are well motivated, empowered, and engaged to provide high standards of performance and are enabled to maximize their potential, through continuous development. 

 Reporting to and working closely with the Deputy Director General NMRN, your remit will be:

 Direct management of a small team to ensure objectives are prioritized and delegated appropriately to meet the corporate HR strategy

  • Working across five sites in the South of England
  • Recruitment and induction of employees and retention of employees up to management level
  • Advising and coaching line managers on all HR matters
  • Proactively manage the professional development and staff training linked to appraisals and organisational needs.
  • Creating, introducing and monitoring HR Policies and Standards
  • Work with Line Managers to ensure all NMRN Policies are adhered to and employees are engaged, motivated, productive and performing to high standards.
  • Compliance with Government Legislation
  • Offering impartial and confidential advice on Staff Welfare and Well-Being

Let’s talk about you!

You will have experience of a generalist HR role and of working in a similar sized, multi-site organisation. You will have experience of managing and motivating a small team of people and will have a natural ability to gain the respect, trust and confidence of those around you.  You will have experience of dealing with people at all levels fairly and sympathetically, whilst coaching, developing and driving for quality. You will be CIPD qualified and will have an excellent level of understanding and expert practical use and application of managing a whole range of HR matters.
