Our events programme is wide and varied to suit all audiences. This year we have a range of activities that will support our planned new twentieth century galleries project.

BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE MUSEUM

Enjoy a tour of the artefact and archive stores with one of our curators and discover some of the behind the scenes objects from our collections

Tours at 10.30am, 11.45am, 1.30pm and 3pm both days.

Saturday 1st - Wednesday 5th September

BELOW HMS VICTORY'S WATERLINE

Join one of the tour guides for a unique chance to go below the wateline. Walk under 3500 tonnes of ship and view the keel at close range.

Tours at 10.30am, 11.45am, 1.30pm and 3pm daily. Only 15 places per tour.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH MULTI-CULTURAL DAY

Join us to celebrate black history and discover more about the Navy's inks to different countries around the world. Investigate cultural artefacts from our stores, find out ore about Nelson's multicultural navy, listen to music and accounts of "first contact". Also discover how new foods and art forms travelled to our country.

Free drop in event. All ages welcome.

Saturday 13th October 10.30am - 1pm

NAVAL SERVICE CERTIFICATES DEMYSTIFIED

Join our library staff for an half day workshop for family historians who want to know what information can be found on the naval ratings service certificate. An illustrated talk is followed by an exclusive hour and half independent research time using the museum library's resources with staff on hand to assist you in your research. An information pack is provided for all participants. Light refreshments available.

Places are limited to 10 and advanced booking is essential.

STOREHOUSE 11 PARANORMAL INVESTIGATIONS

Another chance for to investigate the paranormal activity of previous occupants of this magnificent Georgian storehouse.

SEA LIFE COMMUNITY ROADSHOW - EASTNEY COMMUNITY CENTRE

The museum goes on the road bringing artefacts, activities and fun to your doorstep. There will craft activities and dressing up and a range of Portsmouth area museums telling the people of Portsmouth about their sea heritage.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

Join us to find out about the experiences of veteran's through artefacts, documents and films which are not usually on display. Listen to poetry, meet a WW2 naval officer and make a poppy or "forget-me-not" postcard to add to our Wheel of Remembrance

STOREHOUSE 10 HARD HAT DAY

A chance to find out about our new HLF funded 20th-21st century Navy galleries project. Join the architects and project team and go on site to learn more about the history and conservation of Storehouse 10 - a Grade I listed building dating from 1777 - and our exciting plans for the new galleries and exhibition spaces.
