BIG GAME WEEKEND

 Returning for a second year, your chance to take part in some fun and games naval style. with our giant Battleships game, deck quoits and Uckers with lots more activities for all the family to enjoy.

Free event, no booking required. All ages welcome

EVERY TUESDAY IN AUGUST 11.30AM-12.30PM

ALL HANDS ON DECK

Join us for a fascinating hands-on object session on HMS Victory.

Drop in event, free with a valid attraction ticket. All ages welcome

HERITAGE OPEN DAYS

BEHIND THE SCENES TOUR AT THE MUSEUM

Free tours with 10.30am, 11.45am, 1.30pm and 3pm each day

FINDING YOUR NAVAL ANCESTORS

A half day workshop aimed at the beginner/novice family historian. Led by an experienced researcher discover how to start your research using internet and published sources. Bring along your own research and get guided assistance.

HIDDEN HISTORIES

A series of in-depth talks by collection curators with the opportunity to see objects close-up.

All sessions start at 2.30pm

Cost: £6 per session including refreshments. Booking essential.

CAPTURING THE MOMENT - NAVAL PHOTOGRAPHS

See how events and naval life and people were caught on camera  in the past. From early Daguerreotypes to colour prints, this fascinating collection spans 160 years of naval history.

Saturday 22nd October

IN THEIR OWN WORDS - VOICES FROM THE ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION

Listen to the dramatic personal stories and life changing experiences from veterans to current naval personnel from the museum's oral history collection.

Saturday 5th November

AS I SAW IT - PERSONAL STORIES FROM THE ARCHIVE

Find out about events, social and technological change in the navy through the words and stories of those who were there using the letters and diaries from the manuscript collection.

Saturday 19th November

SHINING EXAMPLES - TALES OF GALLANTRY FROM THE MEDALS COLLECTION

Using the museum's medal collections, discover the action and daring behind the Victoria Cross awards to two naval heroes.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

SATURDAY 15TH OCTOBER 2PM

FREEDOM BURNING - DR RICHARD HUZZEY

A lecture given by Dr Huzzey from the University of Portsmouth sharing his research on the Royal Navy's anti-slavery operations and the opportunity to view relevant artwork from the Museum's own collection. He will highlight how the Victorian's debated the legality and practical effect of operations in Africa and draw modern day parallels.

NELSON'S MULTI-CULTURAL NAVY

Find out about the international flavour of the men who served with Nelson at Trafalgar.
