The Library also runs the Museum’s Information Service and currently answers over 3500 enquiries each year from the large range of published materials available in the collection.
The staff can also advise on alternative sources if the information sought cannot be located from the sources in the library. • The Museum does not hold any official naval personnel service records in our collections. For advice on where these can be obtained, please contact the library or click on the Useful sources link.
• Our standard response time is 4 working weeks, but this is subject to staff availability .
• We are not able to respond immediately to e-mail enquiries and are not able to send acknowledgements of receipt due to the high volume of enquiries we receive. All enquiries are dealt with on a strict order of receipt. For all enquiries, please ensure you give your postal address.
• Due to our limited staffing resources and the high demand placed on the service, follow-up enquiries are replied to once a month only, when staffing allows.

Most enquiries can be dealt with free of charge but donations towards supporting our work is appreciated. However, more complex, in depth enquiries or those requesting large amounts of information may incur a charge.
Our current standard information service charge is £20 per hour + VAT. Additional charges for supplying copies of relevant material apply.
