Embarkation Canoe

Illustrated London News 1849, vol.38, p.237

An engraving of an embarkation canoe used by slave factors. Illustrated London News reports:

'...they are launched from the beach with 200 slaves in their bottoms besides 20 or 30 rowers to each boat, which is about 40 feet long, 12 broad and seven or eight feet deep.’
